ABOUT BUNKERS: A STOP-MOTION ANIMATED, EDUCATIONAL, ADVENTURE-COMEDY THAT IS VISUALLY MIND-BLOWING
After finding an ancient golf in the jungles of San Francisco, the worst golfer of the year, Starlo Von Sourdough, discovers he can recover the treasure of eternal life during a global pandemic. But first he’s got to learn the rules of golf…and in particular…BUNKERS.
BUNKERS is a short stop-motion animated episode (6:45 minutes) that pushes educational boundaries. It feels like an adventure-comedy but you learn about the same Bunker rules that golfers play by today. You don’t have to like golf to love this short, but after watching Bunkers, you may be inspired to start learning and talking golf. This episode is part of a limited series that explores the rules and mysteries of golf through an original character, Starlo Von Sourdough, created by Ollie Anderson. .
BUNKERS was created as a “proof of concept” and it was made from start to finish between February and June of 2020. The story, sets, characters, DoP, animation, lighting, & post production was created by the Director, Ollie Anderson with assistance from Olivia Anderson & Peter Lau. It is only available to watch through Film Festivals until the remaining episodes will be released. The next episode, GREENS, is a full length episode made for television and is currently in production. You can go behind the scenes and engage in the making of GREENS by following us on our Instagram social media channels @sanfranciscotoys and @Bunkers_movie.
Starlo Von Sourdough is a 13 inch toy that is the star of the episode BUNKERS and this entire limited series. His head is very light weight even though his clay face can be altered by hand for animation. This makes it possible for Starlo to do 90% of the motions that humans can do in winds of up to 40 mph without a rig.
WHY TEE THIS UP? A STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTOR, OLLIE ANDERSON
Most of us are struggling with the devastating impact from this global pandemic. As a person who has been challenged with disabilities since birth, I understand that sometimes to get through things we need a little escape. I hope this short takes you to another world and brings you back with a little more love, laughter, and play into your life.
Not one sport contributes more to charities than the Golf Industry. Right now, because of COVID-19, there’s a lot more at stake than just my family and friends who work in the industry. I hope this short stop motion animation engages the 450 million golf fans to play more golf and for others to take up playing it. Golf can help you and the world get through this global pandemic and beyond. I hope this stop-motion animation does too.
